Storyline:
Writer/director Ted Braun follows controversial
hedge fund titan Bill Ackman as he puts a billion
dollars on the line in his crusade to expose Herbalife
as the largest pyramid scheme in history. In the
end the crusade did some damage to Herbalife, but
ultimately failed on multiple fronts. Herbalife
never ended up getting put out of business. Which
in reality would be virtually impossible considering
they're operating in over 90 countries around the
globe. Herbalife stock price (2017) has almost doubled
since the height of the Bill Ackman cruisade in
2012 / 2013.
William
Albert "Bill" Ackman, is an American investor,
hedge fund manager, and philanthropist. He is the
founder and CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management,
a hedge fund management company. What's rather remarkable
and somewhat alarming is that companies like this
will actually place puts and calls against the companies
stock, then the company will proceed with their
campaign to try and maipulate the company stock
price in order to attempt to earn profit off the
companies stock losses or gains. Which is exactly
what the movie points out Bill Ackman CEO
of Pershing Square Capital had attempted to accomplish.
Only in this case it appears to have backfired.
Namely due to Bill's wall street arch enemy Carl
Celian Icahn stepping in to save the day. These
two billionaires had such a bitter fude going on
that Carl Celian Icahn decided to invested
heavily into Herbalife to do what's known as a short
squeeze to completely ruine the stock "puts"
that Bill Ackman CEO of Pershing Square Capital
had placed on herbalife as the movie describes.
