Xyngular review: surging weight loss MLM?
Xyngular is a fast-growing network marketing company offering products in the health and wellness market.
At only six years old, the company had already won multiple business awards and expanded across international borders.
Besides business awards and recognition, their products have done well too, despite steep pricing. Its an intriguing offer for people who want to work from home and sell supplements.
The market for short-term rapid weight loss programs is still huge, despite all sorts of evidence from doctors that its not the best way to lose weight. That would explain the explosive growth of the Xyngular company, whose products are sold via direct selling as well as on ebay and Amazon.
And this company has done several things right, including injecting a scientific approach into its marketing campaign (see: Asea, Doterra, or Zrii).
Theyd better be on the ball in every possible way, since Xyngular products include some of the most expensive weight loss systems on the market.
But build it and they will come- Xyngular has definitely built an aura of Im worth it around its product empire, and people are apparently willing to fork over hundreds of dollars to be on Xyngular health and wellness routines.
Employing around 14 people in Lehi, Utah, Xyngular is headed by Marc Walker. Mr. Walker was a leader with Nuskin and with Xango MLMs, both of which are hugely successful network marketing companies.
The products fall into these categories:
Xyngulars flagship product Xyng is a which is packaged and sold in kits consisting of several different components. They claim that 2 capsules per day will result in fat loss, energy, appetite control and improved mood.
The entire lineup of Xyngular products rests on the powers of Xyng (each kit contains a bottle of Xyng capsules).
Ingredients in Xyng are naturally-sourced. They offer jitter-free energy, meaning no caffeine. The ingredients are designed to Increase serotonin levels in the brain, control blood sugar and control key neuro transmitters in the brain. Xyng contains:
green tea extract
5HTP (increases serotonin levels in the brain)
yohimbe (boosts circulation, blood flow)
Lets talk about 5-HTP. You cant get it from food, but your body makes it from tryptophan, which is found in poultry, milk, potatoes, sunflower seeds, collard greens, and seaweed.
Because many health problems coincide with low levels of serotonin, its believed that taking supplements which increase serotonin in the brain will help treat or cure those diseases. However, this is a classic scientific logical fallacy. Associations are not necessarily causations (youve heard of the correlation-causation dilemma before?).
The science for some of these ingredient claims does actually exist, but it is not always supportive. If you were to ask a real scientist, he or she would tell you that 5-HTP is actually a precursor to serotonin.
Sounds promising, but a research summary published by the National Institutes of Health indicates that 5-HTP isnt quite so effective alone (1). It must be combined with other ingredients to have a real effect on serotonin levels. Even then, its not clear to researchers which ingredient has the beneficial effects.
In addition, it seems that long-term intake of 5-HTP may have negative side effects such as depletion of dopamine. Scientists have concluded that 5-HTP is no better than a placebo, but admit that there is great promise. The key to using 5-HTP to increase serotonin is to balance it with the intake of another amino acid so no depletion occurs.
Overly enthusiastic proponents of Xyngular have in the past claimed that the products can cure all sorts of health issues, including Fibromyalgia. This stems from the belief that 5-HTP can improve symptoms of this disease. The general consensus is that more research is needed, and it does not work for all people.
In general, consumers should beware of products containing 5-HTP, as they are likely to come with unfounded health claims and insufficient information about side effects and long-term use.
Other products in the Weight Loss Kit include:
Lean, a protein shake (harmless enough)
Cheat, a shakeable fiber designed to expand in your stomach and fill you up, made from dried yam roots, also harmless enough
Xr2, a supplement containing valerian root, L-theanine, 5-HTP, and GABA, designed to control stress eating, help you sleep, and combat stress
Flush, a detox supplement containing garlic and other natural ingredients, harmless enough
One bottle of Cheat+ costs about $70 and at the recommended dosage of 6 capsules a day, that bottle of 60 capsules will last you exactly 10 days. Thats $210 per month just for the Cheat+ component of the Weight Loss program.
The Ignite Kit (the starter 8-day weight loss program) costs $450. Thats for 8 days of product.
The xyngular compensation plan offers the following to distributors, in an 8-level unilevel plan:
Retail sales: purchase at wholesale, sell at retail through your own Xyngular website
Rapid Rewards: receive bonuses on new member purchases for their first months orders. Get $24 every time they purchase a case.
Quick Start Bonus: earn $100 when you order 120 PV and enroll 4 people in your first 30 days
Residual income: 42% on repeat volume down to 8 levels on products purchased in your downlines (e.g. on level one, 30 PV earns you $3, 120 PV earns you $12) with dynamic compression
12% corporate sales pools for higher-ranking distributors: this is on the generous side
Travel and cash reward program
One thing to note is that Xyngular has no structural qualification requirements for advancement of leaders, which is rare in MLM.
There are two ways to think about Xyngular: from the consumer perspective or from the distributor point of view. As a consumer, one should be wary of weight loss programs that cost so much and whose science is a little flimsy (but promising!).
As a Xyngular distributor, you have a successful, well-run campaign behind you that works, so its possible to start a home based business if you know how to sell.
The question to ask yourself is: how much do you need to believe in your product?
For most, the more important question will be: how much do you need to believe in the market for it? Two very different things, simply because people will always be gullible, desperate, and not frugal at all when it comes to weight loss products. You can either join in the profits or, if youre looking for something more ethical, move on.
If you want to be in on weight-loss network marketing, Xyngular should be on your short list. Theyve got business legitimacy behind them and with over $1.1 million in annual revenue, theyre doing well.
But in the end, youre selling the hype of an opportunity There is a better way.
